We seek an experienced sales professional who will effectively respond to our clients’ quote requests for staging, lighting, audio, and video production equipment and services, as well as for custom fabrication projects.  The successful candidate is knowledgeable in event production services and excels at working with clients.  We’re looking for a Sales Specialist who can anticipate client needs and achieve them with our products, services, and equipment.

Work will happen out of the Milwaukee office, with frequent travel to customer sites, primarily local.

 

Basic Information

Classification: Full-time, non-exempt

Standard Hours/Week: 40 (approximate), typically Monday-Friday during standard business hours.  There are some long days, evening hours, and/or weekends depending up client needs.  Some overtime may be required.

Salary:  $18 to $30 per hour.

Job Summary/Essential Functions

The Event Sales Specialist is the point of contact between the company and our customers. They determine customer needs and recommend appropriate products and solutions. They respond to new and existing customer inquiries and perform some business development outreach. The Sales Specialist delivers excellent customer service to grow the customer base and elevate the community’s perception of the brand. They engage in a variety of tasks such as answering the phone in a consistent, professional, and courteous manner; ensuring the delivery of personalized customer service through timely quotations/bids and accurate sales orders and invoices; conducting site visits to assess client needs, gathering information for jobs, and drafting service agreements. In some cases they plan and execute their own jobs while in other cases they work with additional internal subject matter experts. There may be design and drafting components for Custom Fabrication jobs while ensuring that client needs are met and internal processes followed. The Sales Specialist may also coordinate pickups, deliveries, and installations in conjunction with relevant departments. The Sales Specialist works with a great deal of independence and exercises independent judgment in performing a wide variety of duties. They must possess a working knowledge of techniques, methods, and procedures of events, music productions, theatre/dance shows and presentations including stage, set, sound, and lighting design. They perform a variety of routine as well as complex and highly technical functions requiring creativity, ingenuity, and resourcefulness.

Ultimately, the Sales Specialist must perform efficiently in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate excellent problem solving and decision making skills, while consulting with internal subject matter experts as needed. This position is required to record hours accurately using the company timeclock system and to submit complete expense reports on time.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in Customer Service/Sales related roles
  • At least one year of technical lighting experience, technical audio experience, and event setup experience
  • General understanding of event production required, event planning experience preferred. Priority given to those with audio/visual experience.
  • Computer literate and comfortable using a computer and smartphone for various tasks.
  • Preferably proficient in Google Workspace (formerly known as G Suite). Knowledge of autoCAD or other computer aided design systems and Intellievent Lighting a plus.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety guidelines and practices preferred.
  • Preference given to those with a proven ability to safely run, maneuver, navigate, and drive vehicles or mechanized equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, personnel lifts, passenger vehicles, and box trucks.
  • Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record and reliable transportation required.
  • Ability to work in schools and military installations without restrictions required.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the job summary above and meeting the physical requirements below.

 

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

  • General understanding of event production and theatrical terms such as XLR, DMX, etc. Priority given to those with in-depth knowledge in at least one of the following: fabrication, rigging, lighting, audio, video.
  • Knowledge of staging and platforms, pipe and drape, lighting, audio, and video equipment.
  • Able to understand and discuss space requirements and be comfortable working with a client to determine their needs and potential solutions for them.
  • Understanding of basic business/sales terminology such as the difference between a quote and a sales order.
  • Possess good judgment, sensitivity, analytical skills, and the ability to prioritize and problem solve. For this position a love of puzzles and researching answers to common issues is a must.
  • Ability to flourish with minimal guidance, be proactive, and handle uncertainty.
  • Skilled at managing multiple complex projects simultaneously while completing tasks in a timely fashion.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to be clear and concise via phone, email, and in person.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Dedication to providing great customer service, including the ability to ask questions of internal subject matter experts and to follow up with customers to clarify their needs and expectations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work enthusiastically with a wide range of individuals to foster productive partnerships and relationships, both internally and externally.
  • Must be tenacious, flexible, and possess strong critical thinking skills.
  • Have the ability to multitask, troubleshoot, and adapt quickly to change while exhibiting good humor under pressure.
  • Able to learn company event inventory and how it works.
  • Able to perform all Essential Functions as described above.
  • Able to set up and strike events.

 

Physical Abilities

  • Able to work steadily at a computer for long periods of time.
  • Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your hands, arms and legs, and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials for a prolonged period of time.
  • Able to visually inspect equipment and use fine motor skills to assemble/disassemble equipment.
  • A steady energy level and a calm demeanor
  • Able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time.
  • Able to operate hand and power tools.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs without assistance.
  • Able to frequently climb and descend stairs and ladders.

Work Environment

This position requires employees to work in a wide variety of work environments including in extreme heat and cold. Loud noises, both sustained and sudden, are common in some environments. This position also works in a typical office/retail environment where frequent interruptions are common.
